DONT USE HINEAWAY.COM TO BOOK RENTAL - WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. booked and paid for a rental home using HOMEAWAY.COM. I was contacted by the owner of the home and informed of additional charges for soap, bed sheet, towels, parking permit and space $25 per a vehicle. Been a customer for many years and for the first few was very happy with this company. Unfortunately they have grown to big and too greedy. Fees have escalated, service is poor (stressful, time-consuming dealings with them that have not been resolved). I lost business because of them. The telephone wait time can be as much as 15 -20 minutes before anyone picks up the phone. I've been passed from pillar to post and had to repeat my many issues... Read more

Their new "pricing" model in 2016 is completely punitive if you don't use their Book On Line feature. They stear you to this because that way they extort a "Service Fee" ranging from 2-6% from the prospective Guest, and it encourages the Guest to use a credit card for which they charge 2.9% and take that out of the proceeds to the Owner. And if you try to add the 2.9% into the rental agreement to delineate this fee the online system will not... Read more

My reservation was cancelled at the last minute by the property manager. She offered no explanation nor did she offer any assistance in helping me find another rental. HomeAway did not offer any assistance either. I wanted to leave feedback to inform other travelers that this property manager cancelled my reservation at the last minute. Homeaway/VRBO is a fraudulent company. They dont protect the renter. Their fraud insurance is a fraud in itself. It cost me $200 and after making me jump thru hoops to make a claim they denied it. Their reviews are a fraud. They can deny a negative review and they let the owners erase all reviews and start over from scratch. I tried book a villa for a once-in-a-lifetime holiday via the official website, and was cheated of a vast £17,400 by fraudsters operating in the name of HomeAway. Found a property to rent in Florida on home so I messaged the renter via the homeway website. I got an answer and asked me to bank wire money to an account in Spain. I was given a rental contract, address and access to the property. The home was dirty and had a foul, musty smell throughout that would not air out. We cleaned the house for 2 hours, but to no avail. We had to give our daughter a Benadryl, due the respiratory reaction from the moldy smell. We contacted the owner and she would not meet us to return our money.
